One of my very BIG, very EXCITING projects that I have been working on is Sweat Life. As a lot of people know, I started studying personal training at AUT University, North campus here in the North shore of Auckland in 2014. I completed everything at the end of 2015 after various deployments on HMNZS Te Kaha, at this stage I was seriously contemplating creating a personal training business to help people gain a quality of life, longevity and to help others build their self-confidence.
My why? As a Maori, I quickly learnt at an early age that we do not know how to look after ourselves with a balanced and nourishing lifestyle, a lot of the older generations eat things such as mutton bird covered in salt, or fry bread which is homemade bread which contains lots of sugar and is fried in oil, or rotten corn… I don’t even know… hahaha… You don’t want to know, it smells terrible!! Haha
Now... don’t get me wrong, I LOVE fry bread, I still think that it’s the bee’s knee’s, problem is, when we have food like this, there is no portion control whatsoever… AT ALL… AND – We eat it quite often(AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE). The older generation were taught unhealthy habits, but were never taught good habits. My mum was terrified that I would end up as big as her or worse, as big as my nan. She did everything she could to keep me fit and healthy and it worked. I love my nan, I really do. She has been the lady that brought me up, the lady who taught me most of what I know today, but with obesity comes other issues such as heart problems, lung disease, coeliac disease, heart burn, asthma, high cholesterol and that’s only the beginning. So, I taught myself to look after myself with the help of my mama and my nan.
I want to be able to help people like my nan, without it costing a fortune for a basic human need. After training people, back to back for 4 months straight, I was waking up at 4am, getting to bed at 11.30pm, asleep after midnight and repeating this for 4 months… I had to figure out a new way to do it. This is when I decided to make a website for it all and find a team to help me.
Here you will be able to sign-up and have access to custom workouts, meal plans, nutrition guides and information as well as various yoga and meditation practices. There is a workout library that has every single exercise video in it so that you know what to do, each workout comes with exercise videos to make it simple and easy for anyone who may just be getting started. The workouts also have an at home option or gym option. I know that not everyone feels comfortable going to the gym to workout, some people would rather have the option to do it in the comfort of their own home.
The nutrition side has interchangeable nourishing meals that aren’t restricted in what you can or cannot eat. I don’t want you to feel pressured to give up eating what you really enjoy, I want you to have a good relationship with food that starts from the inside. Each meal includes a recipe to match, with calories, carbs and protein intake in each meal. They’re food that’s made to be enjoyed, no one wants to dread a boring lifeless chicken breast with no flavour. Haha
The yoga practices vary from a 20-minute power practice to a 1-hour restorative session that you could do before bed, these are all in a library online ready for you to use. The meditation practices also vary in time frame and focus, to help you build your energy for the day ahead, or to help yourself relax after a big day to prepare you for sleep.
Sweat Life is an online platform that I’ve literally built from the ground up all by myself, I taught myself how to build a website and custom code to bring all of this for you all. My team and I have worked so hard to bring this all to life for you. We’ll be launching soon, our launch date is yet to be confirmed, but I hope that you’re as excited as I am ❤
A price to put on all of this was very hard to decide on, in fact it took me months to think of a figure, a price to pay that would be affordable and something that would hold people accountable to stick to the plan. SO… To sign-up online and become a VSP – Very Sweaty Person – You see what I did there?? 😊 hahahaha I’m so funny… Any who, it is $45 NZD a month, to have access to everything online, which will be contracted for 3 months. There are payment options of fortnightly, monthly or to pay the 3 months in one payment. If you choose the fortnightly or monthly payment term, you will be charged for the whole 3-month period until the 3 months is over.
Who else has anything like this? No-one, this is an absolute first to have workouts, nutrition plans, yoga and meditation practices all in one platform… CRAZY!! I KNOW!! I’m excited too! Best part? It’s in little old New Zealand, we’re getting ourselves on the map! First with Sir Edmund Hillary, then the All Blacks, with the help of Mahe Drysdale and Valerie Adams, Lorde, Nick Willis, Lydia Ko, Eric Murray, Hamish Bond, Eliza McCartney and so many more… Riiigggghhhht near the bottom of the list you’ll see Te Ana Smith… Right above Jono and Ben. Just Kidding! Haha 😊
This decision came down to accountability, if you can quit at any time, and you decide that it’s too hard after a week or two – you’ll give up on yourself and won’t even try. However, if you are paying for 3 months regardless, it will hold you accountable to make sure that you are using that $45 you spent. Your body will not change over -night, persistence, determination and consistency will. 3 months is a measurable amount of time for that. If after 3 months, you still don’t like it then you are more than welcome to stop. But first, I want you to give yourself the best chance of making a change for yourself.
Do something now, that your future self will thank you for ❤❤❤
